Dan
My name is Dan, I am a fully qualified mechanic and MOT tester based in Northwich, Cheshire with over 20 years experience working on all makes and models of cars and vans.
What do I do?
A mobile mechanic isn't just someone who can come and rescue you when your car doesn't start. A good mobile mechanic will be able to do most jobs, from regular servicing, brakes, and suspension to battery replacement and Diagnostics.
A common misconception is that 'you need a ramp'. This isn't the case in 99% of jobs, a mobile mechanic will bring their workshop to YOU.
Why am I mobile?
Imagine your car service light comes on and you just don't have the time to get the vehicle to a workshop, then arrange how to get to work! Or the kids are off school and you just can't find the time to sort everything out and do ten things at once. Well, that's where I come in! I come to you! It takes the stress out of it all for the customer and the key to it all is being CONVENIENT! I can come to your home where you can carry on with your stress-free day off, or I can come to your work where I can do what needs to be done while you are still earning money. It all adds to job satisfaction for me.
Am I insured?
YES!!! There are mobile mechanics out there that are NOT insured. This in my view is ridiculous and unprofessional. I have the right motor trade road risk and also public liability insurance that is an absolute MUST so the customer can rest assured that if anything were to happen to their vehicle in my care, it is FULLY insured. - please note that in all my years in this industry, I have never had an accident or any problems with my work! However, we are all human and this is why insurance is a must.
My ethos
In my mind, everything should be black and white. Honesty is certainly the best policy and I believe that should work both ways. If I come across a job that I can't take on because of time etc I will always be honest and upfront about it. I have been witness to garages promising to do X Y and Z, just to charge more money. This isn't morally right for me and it certainly doesn't help the customer or the ongoing relationship.
What do I charge?
This is something that I feel very strongly about. I don't have an hourly rate. Instead, I price up every job individually. Does this mean I'm more expensive than garages? Absolutely not! I can keep my costs down because of the lower overhead etc. The reason I don't have an hourly rate is that I have spent years and years learning what I do and thousands of pounds on tools which has resulted in me being able to do jobs more efficiently. Why should I suffer financially for being good at what I do? This is an example of me being black and white and transparent. Yes, there will be cheaper 'mechanics' out there but can you be confident the job is done properly? From some of the things I have seen, I would say not. I am proud of the work I do and the manner in which it is done.
